The technology — and the century-old science behind it

The word galvanic comes from Luigi Galvani, the Italian physician and physicist who, in the 1780s, discovered that a frog's muscles twitched when touched by two different metals. He had stumbled onto bioelectricity — and the phenomenon was named "galvanism" in his honor. Over the following century, a gentle, controlled direct current found its way into skincare, where it does two useful things. In desincrustation, the current works with an alkaline gel to saponify (essentially soften and emulsify) the oil clogging your pores, making stubborn congestion far easier to release.
